TODAY’S THEME IS CARS AND TRAFFIC.
Many people would describe me as the DRIVING FORCE behind the Community Treatment Order amendment. I HIT THE ROAD lobbying, to protect the lives of mentally ill Islanders, including our son, Andrew.
Dr. Richard O’Reilly and Dr. John Gray tried to assist the Progressive Conservative government to STEER THROUGH the difficult CTO implementation process. Their attempts to VEER IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, before legislation, were ignored. The Progressive Conservative government is in the DRIVER’S SEAT.
The government did not heed the YELLOW LIGHT, and implemented a CTO LEMON, that is very restrictive with few Islanders qualifying.
This LEMON is on a COLLISION COURSE, as DOWN THE ROAD it will potentially result in someone being injured or killed.
It is a fact, that the mentally ill are inclined to come off their medications after discharge from hospital, due to their symptom of anosognosia. They do not understand that they have a mental illness, and also make very bad decisions, including homelessness.
Perhaps the Progressive Conservative government has been DRIVING BLIND, without all the necessary CTO information. There could be potential consequences, such as suicide, should they continue to GO DOWN THIS ROAD! It is an ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN! And it will NOT be a FENDER BENDER!
If I was in their position, I would PUT THE BRAKES on moving forward with the restrictive CTO, which is a JALOPY, and is of no practical use without an amendment.
I have been trying to DRIVE HOME the message that the New Brunswick government has a CTO that is flexible and is a CADILLAC. Islanders do not deserve a MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROAD CTO! They deserve the BEST IN CANADA N.B. CTO model!
In my opinion, the Progressive Conservative government needs to do a U-TURN. They will be ON THE ROAD TO SUCCESS if they SHIFT GEARS, and amend the CTO in the 2024 spring session which starts soon!
