It's been two weeks since I gave you an update. So many things have happened; foremost of which is the Final Validation of DepEd's Ortograpiang Cuyonon in Magsaysay, Palawan. The event was held on June 26-30, 2018. Not to be outdone, the E&S Team visited DepEd Sec. Leonor M. Briones. They don't understand: Language is owned by the people. The community decides what kind of language they're going to use or in what manner they're going to write it. The DepEd Team in Palawan did the right thing. They went to directly to the elders and native Cuyono speakers for series of public hearings and consultations. Not so with the E&S Team. Nine years after they have published their research, they went to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Palawan in April 2017, then had a presentation in June 2018 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Puerto Princesa before they went to see DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones recently. Had the E&S Team been sincere with their so called scientific research, they should have listened to the Cuyonos and restored all the letters that they have deleted. But no! They don't respect the elders and the native Cuyono speakers. In fact they look down on them. They don't respect the DepEd Team that conducted the research --- questioning whether anyone of them have Ph.D. in Linguistics. But most of all, they don't respect the language, customs, culture and tradition of the Cuyonos by deleting those letters with their made up system of writing. As of this date, DepEd is waiting for the Primer to be printed. After which, it will be distributed to the teachers who would teach the Mother Tongue in Cuyo and Magsaysay, Palawan. Let's continue to be vigilant folks. After all, the E&S Team vowed that they won't stop teaching their version of Orthography --- not the Ortograpiang Cuyonon that was validated by the DepEd with the Cuyonos. We have so much work to do ahead of us.
