It's no secret that  California  is in dire need of money, but the governor is proposing that companion animals be considered "luxuries" and therefore a 9% to 10% tax should be levied on services rendered by veterinarians. While some of us can afford such a tax, others will be pushed beyond their ability to pay, resulting in the abandonment and relinquishment to shelters of many animals.Our shelters are also suffering in these hard times and they can't absorb such a potential influx of more animals. Nobody's going to like the result if there is a dramatic decrease in the number of California homes that can afford companion animals.What You Can Do Right Now, In Less Than One Minute:Please protest this tax by calling our Governor in Sacramento . The number is to an automated survey at the governor's office. The call is not free, but it It will take less than a minute and will cost very little.
