The Issue

We, the students and community of Klein Oak High School, are deeply concerned about the recent decision made by Klein ISD to reduce the dance teacher staff at our school. This change will significantly impact the quality of education and experience we have come to love and appreciate. Our dance program is not just an extracurricular activity; it is a vital part of our education and personal growth. It has provided us with numerous opportunities to express ourselves, build confidence, and develop skills that will benefit us in all areas of life.

The proposed staff reduction would increase class sizes from a current ratio of 19:1 to approximately 30:1 to 40:1 depending on the classes being offered. This jump not only compromises the quality of instruction but also raises critical issues about safety. In a dance class, where physical activity is intense and rapid, proper supervision and individual guidance are key to preventing injuries and ensuring that each student can perform to the best of their abilities.

Our program has consistently demonstrated high levels of dedication and achievement, with students regularly participating in state and national competitions, bringing distinction to our school. Despite this, the dance program often receives limited recognition and support within the district. This latest decision only serves to underline this lack of support, risking the very existence of a program that has shaped so many lives.

Maintaining the current staff level is essential for continuing to provide the high standard of instruction and safety we are accustomed to. We urge the district to reflect on the impact such a decision will have not just on the intake per class but on the morale of the students and the community as a whole. The dance program is a cornerstone of our identity here at Klein Oak High School. Preserving it would mean continued investment in the talents and well-being of the students it serves.

Please join us in urging Klein ISD to prioritize education by maintaining our current dance staff. Sign this petition and help us protect the future of our dance program.
