PETITION OPPOSING REZONING OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY TO COMMERCIAL USE
Subject: Opposition to Rezoning of the Pleasantdale Neuman subdivision that encompasses the boundaries to the south of I-55 and frontage road, East side Lemont road, southside 101st and West side to Woodward Ave (also known as “Pleasantdale subdivision) , from Residential (R) to Commercial (C).
We, the undersigned residents and property owners of Pleasantdale subdivision and surrounding area respectfully submit this petition in opposition of rezoning of the property located at the boundaries to the south of I-55, East side Lemont road, southside 101st and West side to Woodward Ave from Residential (R) to Commercial (C) use.
REASONS FOR OPPOSITION
1. Preservation of Residential Character:
The proposed rezoning would disrupt the longstanding residential character of our neighborhood, which is currently a quiet, family-oriented community. Introduction of commercial businesses would alter the peaceful environment we value.
2. Traffic and Safety Concerns:
The influx of traffic from commercial activity poses a serious threat to neighborhood safety, with a heightened risk of crime being a primary concern. Increased vehicle flow can attract unwanted activity and make it more difficult to monitor who is coming and going in residential areas. This is especially troubling for vulnerable populations like children and the elderly. Our streets were not designed for commercial traffic, and the associated rise in crime would place an additional burden on both residents and local law enforcement, straining the resources.
3. Negative Impact on Property Values:
Rezoning to commercial use often leads to decreased residential property values, creating financial hardship for homeowners who have invested in their homes based on current zoning protections.
Noise, Pollution, and Light Disturbances:
Commercial operations typically bring increased noise, lighting, and pollution, negatively impacting the quality of life for those living nearby.
REQUEST FOR ACTION
For the reasons outlined above, we respectfully request that the governmental agencies, deny the planning for rezoning of the property located the boundaries to the south of I-55 and frontage road, East side Lemont road, southside 101st and West side to Woodward Ave from Residential to Commercial.
Action Needed: Attend the Meeting and Submit Public Comments
The meeting date for discussion of the Comprehensive Plan is Thursday, July 10 at 6:00 pm. If anyone would like to reach out to the Village directly for more information, please contact the Community Development Department at 630-719-4750.
➡️ Submit public comments via email to: CommentPC@woodridgeil.gov (NOTE: Please be respectful and avoid negative or rude comments. Please provide constructive feedback).
