As a school crossing supervisor in New South Wales, I am dedicated to ensuring the safety of our children as they travel to and from school each day. Our role is essential in safeguarding our communities' future generations, yet despite annual wage increments, we continue to fall behind financially. The current  percentage based  adjustments fail to adequately address our needs, especially considering the low-hour nature of our positions and the spiralling cost of life.

Our work requires vigilance, patience, and resilience, often in challenging weather conditions. We form strong bonds with the children and parents in our communities, and it is disheartening to see our crucial contributions undervalued. An increase of $5.00 per hour net would provide much-needed financial relief and reflect the true value of our responsibilities.

Statistics from the Australian Bureau of Statistics demonstrate that the cost of living has drastically increased over recent years, further exacerbating the financial strain on low-income earners like school crossing supervisors. This adjustment is not merely about aligning wages with inflation but recognizing the critical role we play in the safety of the school environment.

By raising our wages, we can ensure the recruitment and retention of dedicated staff who are willing and able to perform this vital public service. It demonstrates respect and recognition for the work we do and is a proactive step toward enhancing community safety.

I urge the NSW Government to take immediate action to increase the school crossing supervisor wage in NSW by $5.00 net per hour. This change is not just a financial necessity, but a vital investment in the safety and well-being of our children.
