Plastic Straw are Out, Sea Turtles are In

Plastic Straw are Out, Sea Turtles are In
The Issue
Ban plastic straws on the beach to protect sea turtles.
WHAT IS THE ISSUE?
The amount of plastic straws that are being thrown away in the sea every day each year has been increasing to this day because a large number of people have gotten used to using plastic straws for their drinks, especially when they are at a beach.
There are at least 14 million tonnes of plastic that ends up in the ocean every year, and those years have been alarming with the large amount of plastic pollution in oceans that causes severe incidents to marine species, particularly sea turtles, who have been in danger due to the ingestion of plastic straw.
WHY IS IT PERILOUS FOR SEA TURTLES?
- All the plastic straws that float in the oceans look like food for turtles.
- They ingest or are entangled by plastic debris, which causes severe injuries and death.
- They can injure turtles' noses.
- Young turtles get tangled and trapped in the seaweed when it’s littered with microplastics, and they’re unable to surface for air, leading to their eventual suffocation.
In Zamboanga City (Philippines), a female green sea turtle passed away shortly after being rescued, and according to Acana, this is just one of many incidents of marine species dying due to the ingestion of plastic waste.
Acana (Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO)) said a team immediately conducted a rescue operation to save the turtle, but the green sea turtle was found weak and was also covered in barnacles around its plastron, flippers, carapace, and neck. It died shortly after the rescue operation.
TO SAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL SEA TURTLES, LET US SAY NO TO PLASTIC STRAW AND INSTEAD USE A REUSABLE STRAW!
They deserve to be treated right, to be protected, and to be alive. Human wrongdoing should be corrected; animals must be saved.
A step to help our lovely sea creatures survive is a step to a brighter future for both humans and animals.
Please remember that we should always think about the consequences of our actions.
