This petition is led by residents of Hemsby with the aim of stopping the potential development of Highfield Equestrian Centre to the south of the village, which would mean the construction of 150 houses, only a small proportion of which would be affordable (30 out of the 150). This would place huge pressures on already struggling local services and infrastructure such as roads, surgeries and schools. 

The development would drastically alter the views approaching and surrounding the village, some of which are essential in maintaining the charm and attraction of the village both to residents and tourists.

The area surrounding the proposed site has seen increased flooding over the past few years. With the development at Pontins in the village likely to go ahead, it is uncertain that the village would be able to cope with the increased pressure this creates when dealing with floodwater.  The fact that part of the proposed development includes a lagoon indicates that this is not a suitable area for increased urbanization. 

Highfield Equestrian Centre is an important asset and a source of rural industry, with many villagers and residents from surrounding areas using the site to keep their horses. Turning a site from rural industry to residential housing is contrary to Great Yarmouth's Local Plan Part 2.

The site has a substantial wildlife population, with Deer, Kestrels and other native bird species recorded as using and living on the site. Developing the site for houses would reduce or destroy much of these species' habitat.
