Place a tax on e-cigarettes to fund early childhood education

The Issue

In the past, the state of Arizona has relied on the funds from Proposition 203, which levied a tax on traditional cigarettes to support critical early childhood education programs. However, as smoking rates continue to decline, largely in favor of e-cigarette use, the financial resources from this tax are dwindling, leaving our education system to face significant shortfalls.

As a parent and a member of the Arizona community, it deeply concerns me to see that our children are being deprived of the educational opportunities they deserve due to a lack of funding. I believe every child in Arizona deserves access to high-quality education, setting them up for success in the future. This is why I propose we introduce a new tax on e-cigarettes to compensate for the funding gaps left by the decline in traditional cigarette sales.

E-cigarettes, while marketed as a healthier alternative, aren't without their own issues. As their popularity among young adults and even teens continues to rise, it's imperative we regulate and tax these products, similarly to traditional tobacco products, to curb their use and generate vital revenues.

Our children deserve better funding for better opportunities. By taxing e-cigarettes, we can generate a steady stream of income that can be directly funneled into early childhood education programs. With your support, this change can create a long-term, sustainable funding solution that will benefit our children and the future of our state.

I urge you to sign this petition to call for the state government of Arizona to impose a tax on e-cigarettes. Let's ensure that the next generation has the tools and resources they need to thrive. Stand with me in demanding better funding for our children's education.
