Rename 2014 Hall to a respected figure in the Pitzer community

The Issue

On May 6th, The Office of Communications at Pitzer sent out an email about renaming 2014 Hall to honor our former President, Laura Skandera Trombley. President Trombley announced last December that she would be stepping down as president. During her last days in office she excused Dean Poston without first consulting the faculty. At the end of her term, Pitzer faculty voted no confidence on President Trombley. The community as a whole had lost confidence in her ability to lead the institution. As president, she quickly lost sight of the principles of shared governance that sets Pitzer apart from other colleges.  She helped grow the endowment of Pitzer from $42 million to $102 million at the stake of sacrificing Pitzer's core values. She changed Pitzer from being a "need blind" institution to "need aware" and in doing so decreased socioeconomic diverse while growing the endowment. The list of actions by President Trombley that directly conflicts with the institution's mission is expansive. The fact that Pitzer has decided to rename 2014 Hall after a president that received a no-confidence vote by faculty is alarming. It is in the hands of the Pitzer community to advocate for 2014 Hall to be renamed after a respected and not contentious figurehead.
