For signers of the petition: I think having 583 signatures (so far) is great and the Township Committee is, in fact, recognizing the views of our residents. But online petitions and polls are widely considered "easy", just press a button and it's done, so written letters and (best) personal appearances have more inescapable impact. Anyone who knows what Pitney Farm is and what it means, and can do so, is encouraged to attend the Township Committee meeting Tuesday, Februrary 24th, 7:30pm, town hall in Brookside. The governing body usually opens up to public comments around the middle of the meeting and again at the end. Your own words and views from the heart are always best, but even if you just stand up and say, "I support saving the historic features of Pitney Farm", and/or, "I support keeping the property for the purpose it was purchased for, a likely future community facility", that's powerful. And if a LOT of you attend and pack the room, they may just ask for a pro-Pitney show of hands and you can be shy but still be counted! The last two meetings, not one person came to speak up for Pitney, so the governing body cannot be blamed for thinking it's not important. If a large number of residents show up, that will give the Township Committee the insights and perspectives they need to understand the public's sentiments and respond as we think they should. If the rest of the meeting is boring, bring a book and relax for a bit, but please come if you can, and please be positive, the governing body will respond in kind.
