Ban Vacation Rentals in Ventura's Residential Neighborhoods

Ban Vacation Rentals in Ventura's Residential Neighborhoods
The Issue
Vacation rental businesses are not a good fit in Ventura's family oriented residential neighborhoods. They are a commercial use and should be banned.
- Vacation rentals are a constant nuisance to those living nearby, with new "neighbors" coming and going every week.
- They take long-term rentals off the market, reducing housing options for those who want to live here, particularly young families and those who would like to consider working in local businesses.
- Vacationing groups don't fit in with single family residential neighborhoods. The rest of us have to follow zoning rules, investors should too.
- They create volatility in an already unstable real estate market. Uncertainty and confusion hurts every property owner.
- Nearby cities are banning vacation rentals, and Ventura is already feeling even more pressure from investors.
- Don't think that it won't affect you. Even those in neighborhoods far away from the beach are waking up to find that the house next door is being used as a hotel
- They unfairly steal business from local hotels, who are required to follow the rules.
- It's time to review Ventura's outdated policies. Nobody ever anticipated that the internet would allow people to use their properties like hotel rooms, with booking calendars and automated payment systems.
- They are growing in numbers and aren't going away unless we act. The vacation rental loophole allows out of town investors to profit greatly, at the expense of local residents. We need to immediately close the loophole and ban vacation rentals in residential areas.
You may think that vacation rentals don't concern you, but if you care about maintaining Ventura's wonderful feeling of community, if you care about young families and new hires being able to live in our community, if you care about a stable real estate market that's not thrown off balance by vacation rental investors, please sign this petition.
