Physicians on Israel and Hamas
The Issue
Israel and Hamas
(November 15, 2023)
As physicians from differing backgrounds we join to speak out against hatred and injustice.
On October 7th, Hamas committed a horrific massacre killing 1200 and capturing hundreds of Israelis as hostages. Since October 7th, Israel has undertaken an unprecedented military assault against Hamas killing more than 10,000 Palestinians to date, over one third of whom are children.
We believe:
1) War will not lead to a long term solution for Israelis and Palestinians; it lays the seeds for continued hatred, divisiveness and conflict not just in the Mideast but throughout the world.
2) Oppression of one people by another is neither a sustainable nor a morally defensible strategy for mutual coexistence.
3) Recognizing the humanity in each other is the first step towards allowing all peoples to coexist with mutual respect.
The war in Gaza must stop now and hostages must be returned safely. Join in petitioning our governments to promote peace.
