The hearing was held at City Hall today. We presented the architect's report that the property could be reneovated. We also disputed much of the data that was used to support the idea that there was an economic hardship involved that made a new build profitable while renovation not profitable. The position of city staff remained the same, that they supported the economic hardship claim and supported approving the request for demolition. The hearing office approved the demolition.
We will appeal this decision and it will go to the Historic Preservation Commission, tentatively at their June 20th meeting. We will need strong community support going forward. Help us prevent the demolition of this very visible home in our community. Piece by piece the elements that make our neighborhood historic are being chipped away.
