Pete Rose deserves to be inducted in to the Phillies Wall of Fame
The Issue
The Cincinnati Reds announced that Pete Rose would be inducted into their team hall of fame during the weekend of June 24 - 26th, 2016. This got me thinking, why shouldn't Pete Rose be inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame? I want this petition signed by 100,000 Phillies fan around the world that will be delivered to the organization.
In his 5 years in Philly, he had a .291 batting average, 826 hits, 4 all star teams, a silver slugger and played excellent defense at first base. Besides that, Pete Rose was the anchor of the 1980 World Championship Phillies team where he played all 162 games batting .282 and leading the league in doubles, was 2nd in times on base and 5th in runs scored. And let's not forget his 9th inning foul ball catch that bounced off the hands of Bob Boone. Look at all the other 1980 team members that have already been honored - Schmidt, Carlton, Maddox, Bowa, Green, Vukovich, Boone, McGraw, and Luzinski.
Here is a link to the Phillies Wall of Fame: List of Phillies Wall of Fame . Does Pete Rose not live up to the legendary play of Lieberthal, Kruk or Daulton?
Keep these 3 reasons in mind (1) Pete Rose was the key to getting the Phillies over the World Series hump of the 1970's and is a major part of team history; (2) He is as qualified number wise as anyone to be up there; and (3) Pete was never accused of betting on any baseball games while he was with the Phillies and remains close to the city of Philadelphia and it's fans.
