The Issue

  • Old-head Philadelphians continue to call Columbus Blvd "Delaware Avenue," its original name.
  • Christopher Columbus never landed any ships at the South Philly Target, or anywhere else on the Delaware River bank
  • Columbus's expeditions were a project funded by the Spanish monarchy; nowhere in the city's history was any part of it ever under the protection of Spain
  • Italian emigration to the United States had nothing to do with these expeditions hundreds of years before the formation of the Pennsylvania colony
  • For some odd reason the name reverts back to Delaware Avenue once you drive past a dilapidated nightclub, anyway.
  • Jokes about drama that happens along the waterfront is spicier when "the Delly" is thrown in.
