Parent Choice for Masks in NJ Schools

Parent Choice for Masks in NJ Schools
The Issue
Dear President Biden and Governor Murphy,
We represent over 39,086 New Jersey families across 129 parent-teacher advocacy groups, and we are here to inform you that your uninvited reign of destruction over the children of New Jersey is finished.
We have watched the last few weeks unfold in abject horror - observing our government institutions and leaders failing our children at every turn, again. Your renewed calls for lockdowns, enforced mask mandates, and masking in schools is not rooted in science and is objectively cruel to the most vulnerable in our society, our children. We believe that you are in fact aware of this and continue to play political games with our children, despite our efforts to work with you over the last twelve months.
We are here to inform you that this ends today. Governor Murphy, we call upon you to immediately rescind EO 251 and 253, and return the decision-making process regarding masking to the rightful deciders-our local Boards of Education. You have disregarded the doctrine of Home Rule in NJ, rendering unnecessary all local Boards of Education, Superintendents, and other supervisory roles, should you continue to rule by centralized mandate. You endanger the population of special interests you have intended to please-public teacher and employee unions.
Instead of encouraging compliance, you have forced us into dissent and withdrawal from the system of cruel and unconstitutional impositions placed upon our children and unbearable burdens tasked upon our public servants. We are leaving the system to protect our children, resulting in long-term budgetary gaps and reduced demand for public education. The ESSR funds and associated mandates will eventually expire, but do not expect us to return to the system.
We anticipate that educators will be joining us in objecting to these mandates being imposed upon them as a condition of further employment, and we will ally with their cause.
From this point forward, we consider any mandatory mask mandate to be an impermissible medical intervention. The community has not been presented with any long-term safety trial or clinical studies for daily mask use by children. However, there is plenty of evidence establishing the negative side effects of the physical, immunological and psychological impact of forcing children and adolescents to endure extended masking, far outweighing the remote chance of any benefit in transmission reduction.
Choices regarding health are a civil right, grounded in bodily autonomy, dignity, and the privacy of the individual. The profound lack of dignity, privacy, autonomy and treatment of children is appalling and discriminatory.
As concerned parents, effective immediately we will not:
1. Mask our children in schools
2. Allow you to use your private sector counterparts to enforce invasive mask mandates on our children in various stores or at community activities
3. Subject our children to any further local, regional, or national lockdowns or movement restriction
Simply put, these are not your children. They are ours and they too, are Americans with rights. They are our responsibility and our most beloved. They are not yours.
We applaud and support the school boards, businesses, and localities that have respected our parental choice. We anticipate and appreciate their continued support of our right to choose what is best for our children and individual families.
If you are a parent reading this, hear us clearly: you are not alone. We urge you to connect with other parents and make your voice heard.
We are strong. We are united, nationwide. We are in control. We have never and will never co-parent with the government.
You have this moment to take a step back from the brink. We urge you to restore our confidence in the appropriate balancing of rights of parents while still supporting our shared goal of the health and safety of all stakeholders. We thank you for your careful consideration of our concerns.
