Remove Racist Colonial Monument from SF Presidio Park

Remove Racist Colonial Monument from SF Presidio Park
The Issue
In 1957, the San Francisco chapter of Daughters of the American Colonists placed a monument near Mountain Lake, in dedication to Juan Bautista de Anza.
The monument is placed at the site where indigenous Ohlone people were first disturbed by de Anza and his men. A famine ensued, followed by lasting indigenous enslavement and genocide.
This colonial monument is a blight and it must be removed.
San Francisco would not tolerate Confederate flags. We must not tolerate this disgusting symbol of hate either.
Remove this boulder and replace it with an Ohlone memorial.
------
Support Ohlone recovery efforts
The Spanish constructed missions along the California coast with the objective of Christianizing the native people and culture. Between the years 1769 and 1834, the number of Indigenous Californians dropped from 300,000 to 250,000. After California entered into the Union in 1850, the state government perpetrated massacres against the Ohlone people. Many of the leaders of these massacres were rewarded with positions in state and federal government.[6] These massacres have been described as genocide. Many are now leading a push for cultural and historical recognition of their tribe and what they have gone through and had taken from them.[7] (Source: Wikipedia)
