The Mirena IUD is used by millions of women as a birth control method and also for the control of heavy bleeding. There have been many detrimental effects associated with the insertion of the Mirena, including the Mirena IUD causing thyroid disease, intracranial hypertension, ovarian cysts, puncturing of the uterine wall to mention a few.

Most recently, additional side effects are being reported by women throughout the internet. These side effects refer to thyroid disease in both forms; hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, along with an increase in thyroid nodules or goiter.

Not one of these side effects were mentioned to me before insertion. Leaving myself and many women with extensive medical bills, lost salaries, and immense physical and mental disabilities. My entire career, life and health has been completely destroyed. Immediately after discovering that the Mirena was the cause of my declined health, I had it removed. I would never have agreed to insert the Mirena had I been informed about the detrimental side effects.

It is imperative that both medical doctors and Bayer pharmaceuticals admit and inform women about the detrimental side effects. Even if it's on the merit of the lawsuits won against them.

There are many cases courts have dismissed in the USA and I'm sure around the globe and this is why we need this petition not only to inform fellow women but to compel the pharmaceutical industry to acknowledge the suffering caused by their products which they profit from.

This petition is not only for those who have suffered before us but to protect women in the future.
