Today, PetSmart salon associates were told that the salon would be shut down for two weeks due to Covid-19. As needed as that is, they are not offering paid sick leave. Instead, they are offering the salon employees to work on the sales floor with other associates that don’t work in the salon. It is disappointing enough that they refuse to close the entire store - ESPECIALLY considering online pick-up/delivery is available on chewy.com -, but to do so without offering any kind of compensation is a complete slap to the face of the employees who put their heart into this job. Many associates are already taking an incredible loss due to not being able to make commission or tips, and the fact that PetSmart will not compensate for any of that without associates risking their health and safety is ludicrous. PetSmart, it’s time to STOP taking your dedicated employees for granted and close the ENTIRE store WITH paid sick leave. These are dangerous times, and you need to do what’s best for your employees, and the general public.
