Pets Lifeline

The Issue

Pets Lifeline (PLL), located in the small burg of Sonoma Valley, campaigned to our Community for donations to build a new, bigger, better shelter facility complete with a surgical center.  PLLs campaign to raise funds, Raise the Woof” requested an astonishing $3.5 million dollars.  Our community loves their dogs and generously stepped up and funded this campaign.PLLs promise to the community was this facility was much needed so THEY could help more dogs.  The new facility was completed, and they moved in August 2021.  While the new shelter only has 15 viable kennels for daily dogs, even those remain virtually empty, with an average of four dogs at the shelter.  From past volunteers, we’ve learned that some kennels are used for storage instead of available for a dog in need.  But the worst part is: PLL is transferring dogs to the Sonoma County kill shelter. For instance, these two dogs, Barack, and Milo, met their untimely death for no good reason. Barack was found just a few miles from Pets Lifeline.  He was only six years old, blind, and had some skin issues and an ear infection that needed tending to.  What Barack got was a one-day stay at PLL before he was transferred to County (killed).  Milo came into PLL on May 14, 2022.  As you can see, he sat nicely for his picture at PLL but within a couple of days started in with fear aggression.  He was scared.  He was caged up.  So, instead of helping poor Milo, he, too, was transferred to County (killed).  Pets Lifeline of Sonoma is a super-funded shelter with the executive director's salary and benefits over $165,000 a year, a staff of 15 including an on-staff trainer, and annual salaries $750,000+.  The community of Sonoma has continually and substantially super-funded this shelter so dogs in need in Sonoma will have a safe haven – a Lifeline.

Please sign our petition to effect policy change at Pets Lifeline:

NO TRANSFERS OF DOGS TO ANY KILL FACILITY.

We’ve tried on our own – to no avail, met with excuses.  We are hopeful that with public support, the Board of Directors will listen, see the merit in keeping these dogs and amend their policy to afford lifelines’ to dogs in need – not a bus ticket to County kill shelter.  Thank you.

Be the voice these dogs need, and what the community of Sonoma funded this shelter to be!

Thank you
