Why this petition matters

EDIT: in order to file a formal petition to the Orange Circuit Court under Code of Virginia § 24.2-233, we need signatures from 10% of the voting base in the last election. There were 2,864 votes cast for the School Board Member representing District Four, so we need 287 signatures from those registered to vote in Orange County's District Four.

Email me at griffin.floyd@gmail.com if you live in District Four so we can figure out how to collect your signature.

I, Griffin Floyd, am petitioning the Orange Circuit Court, located in Orange, Virginia, to remove District Four School Board Member Chelsea Quintern from office, pursuant to Code of Virginia § 24.2-233., namely that “Upon petition, a circuit court may remove from office any elected officer or officer who has been appointed to fill an elective office, residing within the jurisdiction of the court:

1. For neglect of duty, misuse of office, or incompetence in the performance of duties when that neglect of duty, misuse of office, or incompetence in the performance of duties has a material adverse effect upon the conduct of the office;”

Quintern ran for school board as a partisan political candidate, posting repeatedly to social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter using hashtags like “#republicancandidate” and “#voterepublican”. Keep in mind that she was not listed as a Republican on the ballot, as school board elections are not partisan: as evidenced by the April 25 resolutions she proposed, Quintern is attempting to use the power her office provides as a means of enforcing her theological and political beliefs on public school children in Orange County, a gross misuse of office. In addition, running for and holding office as a partisan candidate in a nonpartisan office sets a dangerous precedent for future school board elections.

Quintern has complained on twitter about how “people started using science as a means of replacing God.” Given the separation of church and state in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, and the 1972 Lemon vs. Kurzman Supreme Court ruling, which determined that the Establishment Clause applies to public schools, as they are an arm of the state, Quintern is also unfit for office because she is in violation of the Constitution. If she is in favor of religion over science (which is a core concept of a child’s public school education), she is unfit for office, and should be removed under Code of Virginia § 24.2-233.

Consider all signatures to this petition as evidence of the people of Orange County’s will to remove Quintern from office.
