PETITON FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE ATHLETIC COORDINATOR AND PLACEMENT OF A NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

To Eldred School District,

We, the undersigned, petition the Eldred Central School District Supervisor, Principal, and Board of Education to urgently address the detrimental impact that this Sports Coordinator is having on our Sports Program and request that an immediate resignation or replacement, take place.

We are concerned with the state of the Athletics Program. Our student athletes not only at our school, but at opposing schools are suffering because there are unethical decisions being made. A disservice was done recently when someone unethically allowed a discission that involved splitting a group of 27 baseball players into two teams, varsity and modified. This split fueled by favoritism allowed only 10 modified players and 17 varsity players. This conveniently allowed the varsity team to include a staff member’s child, a 9th grader, still eligible for the modified team and a coach’s child, an 8th grader, also eligible for the modified team. This imbalance leaves our modified program in jeopardy. One athlete injured, sick or other ways unable to play leaves the modified team out of an entire season. This directly effects our feeder program for future ball players. Clearly this is a direct reflection of the continuous disregard of the Eldred School Districts Code of Conduct by The Acting Athletic Director. This previous act constitutes discrimination and it directly violates the contract signed by the acting athletic director. This should lead to disciplinary actions that should be followed through by the Superintendent and the Board. The New York State Code of Ethics for Professional Educators stated in the District Code of Conduct, approved by this board and this superintendent, lists 6 main principles that are clear expectations of educators and staff. The acting athletic director violated many principles.

Amanda Zegrodek continued actions have resulted a drastic decline in the health and spirit of our school’s athletic program. Having traced the source of the problem data suggests that there is a dip in the school’s athletic performance. Inappropriate management has gravely affected the growth of our athletes. Parents and colleagues are left with poor communication, significant decrease in school pride. Students are not signing up for sports. The confidence and morale of the entire athletic department is deflated. This issue deserves immediate attention.

We the undersigned propose a solution that would require the AC to step down, moving her to a Physical Education position to the Lower Elementary. We the undersigned would like the Physical Education teacher from Mackenzie to transfer to the high school as the Athletic Director.
