Verizon, Comcast or AT&T to provide Internet Service in Porter, Kingwood, New Caney Texas
The Issue
Riverwalk community and other neighborhoods in the towns of Porter, Kingwood and New Caney, Texas are supplied by Suddenlink (a unit of Altice USA) and Centurylink as the internet providers. Centurylink at best provides a 10 MBPS connection, with no upcoming plans to extend their "fiber" service to our communities, and is also fraught with customer service issues. Suddenlink is thus, the only high-speed internet provider in our communities. Suddenlink provides upto a 1 GBPS service, but numerous residents have experienced fluctuating internet speeds, extremely poor customer service, billing discrepancies, and several other issues. Given that Suddenlink is the only choice for high-speed internet in our communities, there seems to be no urgency on the part of Suddenlink to expedite issue resolution and provide services that people are paying for. In several cases, people have found that Suddenlink is "throttling" speeds or using rate limiting devices to lower speeds even on customers paying for 1 GBPS service with unlimited data use plans.
Furthermore, with the recent legal wins against Spectrum and Charter communications, who were caught in similar acts with their customers, Suddenlink quickly shifted to change its legal contracts and terms/conditions documents in the last year to enforce an 'arbitration' clause on customers, preventing them to organize in a class action.
It is 2019. We the residents should not be limited to 1 high-speed internet service provider, when numerous parts of the country have been enjoying high speed FIOS service from Verizon, Comcast's Xfinity, and AT&T fiber. Whereas rest of the country pays on average $50-$70/month for a 1GBPS service, Suddenlink customers face $100+/month for this service. Despite paying high fees, the speeds do not reach even close to 1gbps and many residents see fluctuating internet speeds of 0.2 mbps to 50 mbps at best.
We are asking Verizon, Comcast and AT&T to consider investment to provide internet services in the Riverwalk and neighboring communities. Those who are signing this petition are showing strong interest in agreeing to a long-term commitment with the company that agrees to provide a high-speed service in our communities. We are also asking our HOA and CIA Services to consider reaching out to Verizon, Comcast and AT&T to engage them in discussions, that can result in a contract for internet services, that our residents will favor very much.
