The Issue

For 31 years, an innocent woman named Betty Woods Wilson has been confined within the walls of an Alabama prison. This is a personal matter for me as I have dedicated countless hours researching her case through court records, books, films, articles and various other sources. My findings have led me to create a documentary, Finding Betty, that exposes the fabrications of the court that wrongfully convicted her and continues to keep her behind bars.

Betty's story is not just about one woman's fight for justice; it represents a systemic failure in our criminal justice system. It is estimated that between 2% and 10% of all U.S prisoners are innocent (source: National Registry of Exonerations). That means there could be thousands more Bettys languishing in prisons across America. There have been several court violations and misconduct through the Alabama Court system against Betty Wilson up to the Appellate Courts to include a Brady Violation, Ex Parte, and fabrication of evidence used in court. These were exposed in the mirror case of her twin sister Peggy Lowe in 1993 which successfully acquitted her.

We call upon the State of Alabama to rectify this grave injustice by granting clemency or pardon to Betty Woods Wilson. Her continued imprisonment serves no purpose but to perpetuate a miscarriage of justice while undermining integrity in our justice system. If this can happen to Betty Wilson who is to say this can't happen to you or anyone that you love?

This petition will be forwarded to numerous non-profit organizations that fight for injustice for situations that have affected people like Betty in search for a resolution. Please join us in urging the State of Alabama to free Betty Woods Wilson immediately. Sign this petition today!
