Petitioning the Veterans Comm. to put Reds "Great 8" SS Dave Concepcion in Baseball's HOF
The Issue
Whereas, Dave Concepcion was the shortstop for the 1970's "Back To Back" World Champion "Big Red Machine" Cincinnati Reds as part of their "Great 8 Lineup"; and
Whereas, Dave Concepcion earned five Gold Glove Awards at shortstop as he teamed with MLB Hall of Fame second baseman Joe Morgan to form arguably the greatest double play combination of his era; and
Whereas, Dave Concepcion was a nine-time National League All-Star and was the MVP of the 1982 All-Star Game; and
Whereas, Dave Concepcion earned two NL Silver Slugger Awards; and
Whereas, Dave Concepcion ranks 2nd all time in Reds club history in Games Played and At-Bats and 3rd all time in Reds club history in career hits, doubles and stolen bases and 5th all time in Reds club history in runs scored and total bases; and
Whereas Dave Concepcion is tied with MLB Hall of Famer Barry Larkin with the Reds franchise record of 19 years played with the team; and
Whereas, Dave Concepcion's 2326 career hits, 101 home runs, .267 batting average and 950 career runs batted exceed, equal or are comparable to the career totals of other previously elected Hall of Fame shortstops such as Luis Aparicio, Dave Bancroft, Lou Boudreau, Travis Jackson, Pee Wee Reese, Phill Rizzuto, Joe Sewell, Joe Tinker, Ozzie Smith, John Ward, Arky Vaughn and the aforementioned Reds SS Barry Larkin; and
Whereas Dave Concepcion has brought nothing but honor and credit to himself and to the game of baseball both on and off the field of play; therefore,
We, the undersigned, do hereby petition the MLB Baseball Hall of Fame "Todays Game" and "Modern Baseball" Veteran or "Era committees to formally consider and elect Dave Concepcion to the MLB Hall of Fame at Cooperstown at their earliest and next election cycle. Such consideration for Mr. Concepcion is well-earned and very much over due.
