The Issue

To Governor Tim Walz, Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, and every other official entrusted by God with governing authority in the state of Minnesota:

The Churches of Jesus Christ in Minnesota are troubled over the lack of action you have taken to protect the rights of Minnesota state citizens, including churches. The mob-inciting flavor of your rhetoric, and your maintaining an appearance of selective tolerance toward outright lawlessness has only allowed for further lawlessness and violation of rights to be cultivated—to the harm of decent, peaceful, law-abiding citizens.

For a number of years, we have grieved for and suffered under the many ways you have allowed this atmosphere of lawlessness to increase. However, we are especially grieved over your recent negligence and heinous dereliction of duty in refusing to bring lawful justice to bear upon those who have instigated, perpetrated, and participated in the violation of the Minnesota people’s God-given right of lawful assembly and freedom of worship—a right protected under both federal and state Constitutions (U. S. Constitution: First Amendment; Minnesota Constitution: Article I, Section 16; Minnesota State Statute 609.28, “Interfering with Religious Observance”).

You have permitted the lawless disruption of a peaceful worship service in St. Paul, Minnesota (Cities Church) on January 18, 2026. You have failed and apparently refused to take any decisive and swift action in order to uphold the rights of those citizens; neither have you shown efforts to prosecute violations of those rights. This leaves us in great doubt regarding your present ability (or worse, your willingness) to ensure that we as Minnesota citizens will have our rights protected, and violations of those rights vindicated, according to the laws of this state.

In the great Name of the King over all kings, and Lord over all lords, Jesus Christ, and in accordance with the Minnesota Constitution, we protest your negligence, and exhort each of you to turn from your dereliction of duty.

We petition you to use the authority of your government positions to fulfill your God-ordained purpose: “to uphold the good, and punish the evil” (1 Peter 2:14; Romans 13:1-4), and to ensure “the security, benefit, and protection of the people” of this state (Minnesota Constitution: Article 1, Section 1, “Object of Government”). This is a responsibility our state Constitution demands of you, and a responsibility you accepted when you took your oath of office. We call upon each of you to fulfill your oaths.

You have our assurance of full support and glad submission as you use the authority of your office to uphold law and order in this state. But we plead with you to have the courage and integrity to do so. We will continue praying for the God of justice to give you the wisdom and strength you need to see this responsibility fulfilled. We only ask that each of you will prove yourselves zealous to protect the God-given rights of the citizens of Minnesota, and to enforce justice against all who violate those rights.

Sincerely,

Minnesota Evangelical Churches and Christians
