THE PONTIAC AND OUTAOUAIS NEED TO RALLY AROUND ANIMAL AIDE

 

Animal Aide Pontiac is drowning.

 

This volunteer-run, non-profit animal-rescue organization helps sick, injured, abandoned, unwanted, and vulnerable cats, dogs, and rabbits throughout the Pontiac, Outaouais and  Ottawa Valley

 

They help with emergency rescues, veterinary care, fostering, adoption, rehoming, transportation, and finding safe homes for animals that may otherwise have nowhere to go.

 

They also carry out vital Trap-Neuter-Return work, commonly known as TNR.

 

TNR helps prevent the continued growth of feral and unowned cat populations by humanely trapping cats, having them spayed or neutered, and returning them to their established outdoor locations.

 

This work prevents more unwanted kittens from being born and helps reduce the overwhelming number of animals entering an already overburdened rescue system.

 

But Animal Aide is not simply helping animals from one small area.

 

Kath and her small volunteer team travel for hours across the region.

 

They coordinate large TNR trips.

 

They manage multiple pickup and return locations.

 

They transport animals to and from veterinary appointments.

 

They respond to desperate messages and emergency requests.

 

They support foster homes.

 

They help families who have nowhere else to turn.

 

Their work can stretch from Petawawa to Quyon and throughout the Pontiac and Outaouais.

 

One TNR day can involve multiple animals, multiple pickup locations, hours of driving, veterinary appointments, transportation, coordination, and safely returning animals after their care.

 

The amount of work happening behind every rescue is enormous.

 

And far too much of it is falling on Kath and a very small group of dedicated volunteers.

 

Animal Aide is facing overwhelming demand, growing veterinary expenses, rescue-related debt, limited foster availability, transportation challenges, and an impossible workload.

 

The requests for help keep coming.

 

The animals keep needing help.

 

But the people doing the work are reaching their limits.

 

Kath has spent years stepping in when animals and community members had nowhere else to turn.

 

She has helped save more lives than most people will ever know.

 

But one person cannot carry an entire region forever.

 

This is not sustainable.

 

Animal Aide does not only need donations.

 

They need people.

 

They need volunteer drivers who can help with TNR days, veterinary appointments, emergency pickups, foster transfers, adoption transports, and returning animals after treatment.

 

They need volunteers in different communities who can help carry part of the route instead of requiring Kath to drive hours across the region and manage multiple pickup locations herself.

 

They need people who can help coordinate transportation, answer messages, organize trips, communicate with fosters, prepare carriers, manage paperwork, fundraise, and support the endless work that happens behind every rescue.

 

They need support for fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance, transportation supplies, veterinary expenses, and TNR programs.

 

They need stronger cooperation and meaningful support from municipalities, animal-welfare organizations, veterinary partners, and government representatives.

 

They need accessible and timely TNR services.

 

They need sustainable funding.

 

They need another properly equipped animal-transport van to help move animals during large TNR operations, veterinary trips, emergency rescues, foster transfers, and adoption transports.

 

Most importantly, Kath and the Animal Aide team need to be able to rest without guilt.

 

Kath should be able to take a day off without wondering who will answer the next desperate message.

 

She should not have to worry about who will drive the next animal, organize the next TNR trip, coordinate the next pickup, or whether everything will fall apart if she is unavailable.

 

The people who save animals need support too.

 

They need rest.

 

They need time with their families.

 

They need to know that the work will continue even when they are not personally carrying every part of it.

 

We are not asking Kath to work harder.

 

We are asking the community to help carry the work.

 

This petition is calling for:

 

🐾 Accessible, affordable, and timely TNR services throughout the Pontiac and surrounding communities

 

🐾 Sustainable funding for Animal Aide Pontiac

 

🐾 Stronger cooperation between Animal Aide, the SPCA de l’Outaouais, the MRC Pontiac, municipalities, veterinary clinics, and other animal-welfare organizations

 

🐾 Faster access to spay and neuter services

 

🐾 A regional network of volunteer drivers and transportation coordinators

 

🐾 More volunteers to assist with transportation, administration, scheduling, foster coordination, fundraising, and rescue operations

 

🐾 Financial support for fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance, carriers, and transportation supplies

 

🐾 An additional properly equipped animal-transport van

 

🐾 Relief and guilt-free rest for Kath and the Animal Aide volunteer team

 

🐾 Real, sustainable solutions that do not leave one small volunteer organization carrying an entire regional crisis

 

This is not about attacking individual employees or volunteers.

 

This is about demanding meaningful solutions, shared responsibility, stronger partnerships, sustainable funding, and better support for the people who have been filling the gaps for years.

 

Animal welfare cannot survive on exhaustion, personal debt, and the sacrifice of a handful of volunteers.

 

If Animal Aide falls, countless animals and desperate families may have nowhere else to turn.

 

Kath and her team have carried this community’s animals for years.

 

Now it is time for the community to carry them.
