Petition to Upgrade the Church Green Car Park in Hayes Middlesex next to St Mary's Church
The Issue
Church Green is a road in Hayes Middlesex, that is opposite Hemmen Lane, and home to the London Ambulance Service, and St Mary The Virgin Parish Church Hayes.
At the end of Church Green is Lych Gate Walk and a public car park that backs on to Barra Hall Park, which is maintained by the Green Spaces Team at Hillingdon.
Dialogue was started with the Green Spaces manager via X (formerly Twitter) on the 16th February asking for the car park to be resurfaced. The response received back was as follows;
"We are aware of the condition of the car park. We have had it surveyed and identified works required. This is currently awaiting approval as the cost for this work is substantial"
They estimate it will cost £36k to excavate 300mm of the existing surfacing, and dispose, lay 150mm type 1 compaction and lay 150mm scalping.
We were disappointed to learn that the above compaction and scalping they are proposing, is the same as what is currently in place. Our concern is that in years to come this would end up in the same state as the current car park, and we would therefore prefer a tarmac alternative with lined markings bays similar to car park spaces you see in supermarket car parks.
The Church Green car park has many different user groups that include and are not limited to; church worshipers, church bellringers, parents and guardians on the school run, visitors to residents in Lych Gate Walk, dog walkers, those attending a wedding, baptism or funeral, those attending jumble sales in the church hall and those attending functions in the church hall.
When it rains the car park is littered with approximately 15-20 muddy pothole puddles that then have to be navigated by the above groups mentioned to avoid getting their clothes either wet or dirty. No-one should have to experience this as it also does not give off a good first impression of the area.
Parking is limited in the area as it is and a decent car park will help parents especially, as they endure the constant daily stress of traffic wardens patrolling up and down Hemmen Lane waiting to issue tickets when they are simply just trying to get their children to school.
Church Green carpark users in Hayes need a car park that will be fit for purpose, and will provide longevity in years to come that only a tarmac solution can provide.
Please therefore sign this petition if you agree, and add your own thoughts and comments in the space provided.
