Petition to the Monterey County Probation Department to deny Aiello’s home confinement

The Issue

Re: Case # 23CR005073 | The people vs Christine Aiello

The defendant inflicted injury by assaulting John Doe, on May 25, 2023, who was in her care at Miss Barbara’s Child Care Center in the city of Marina.

This case was reported to police when John Doe came home from daycare with some new scratches, scrapes, and bruises. He told both his mother and teacher that the defendant, who worked at the daycare but was not his assigned teacher, had hurt him. Video surveillance showed the defendant dragging two-year-old John Doe into a classroom and repeatedly throwing him down onto a sleeping mat. She also attempted to hold him down on the mat using a chair.

John Doe’s family members spoke at the sentencing about the impact this has had on him, and the impact on his parents, who put their trust in the defendant and the daycare center to keep their child safe, only to have that trust broken.

We, the undersigned citizens of Monterey County request that the application for home confinement for Christine Aiello be denied. Her crime is not eligible for home confinement due to:

Example 1: Crime involved significant abuse of authority as a director of a pre-school and violation of trust and confidence to care for our communities’ children. Crime was against the most vulnerable in our community, our children.

Example 2: Offender does not possess sufficient capacity for self-control, evidenced by her crime causing violence against a child in her care with children in her care as witnesses.

Example 3: Case was serious in nature and poses safety issues to the community. Victim(s) may encounter the offender in the community and she may cause further harm and threat to their safety.

The citizens of Monterey County are outraged that the offender has the option to serve home confinement when her crime proves she is not eligible. Please consider these examples and signatures and deny her request for home confinement.
