Petition to Support Summerveld Hound Resort Dog Rescue Sanctuary
The Issue
**PLEASE DO NOT DONATE ON THIS SITE. DONATIONS GO TO CHANGE.ORG NOT TO OUR SANCTUARY.**
Protect a Lifeline for Rescued Dogs in KwaZulu-Natal
We, the undersigned, express our support for Summerveld Hound Resort Dog Rescue Sanctuary (NPO 225-939), a registered non-profit organisation located in Summerveld.
Summerveld Hound Resort provides a sanctuary for rescued dogs, many of whom come from difficult backgrounds including abandonment, abuse, neglect, or situations where they could not safely be rehomed.
A significant number of the dogs currently living at the sanctuary were rescued from situations where they were at risk of euthanasia, giving them a second chance at life.
We are currently facing challenges that may impact the future operation of our sanctuary. While we are actively engaging with the appropriate authorities and working toward solutions, the reality is simple:
If our sanctuary cannot continue operating, these dogs will have nowhere to go.
Unlike traditional rescue organisations that focus primarily on adoption, Summerveld Hound Resort operates as a sanctuary, meaning the dogs in their care are provided with lifelong safety, stability, and compassionate care, should they not be adopted to pre-approved homes.
Currently the sanctuary provides a home for 98 rescued dogs, each of whom relies on the organisation for daily care, feeding, medical support, enrichment, and protection.
The organisation is run by a dedicated family and team of staff who have committed their lives to caring for these animals, ensuring they live in a safe environment with access to outdoor space, enrichment activities, pack companionship, and regular human interaction.
The dogs at the sanctuary receive regular veterinary care, vaccinations, and sterilisation, ensuring responsible and professional animal welfare standards are maintained at all times.
In addition to caring for their resident dogs, Summerveld Hound Resort also supports the wider animal welfare community by assisting with networking and helping other animals in need where possible.
Sanctuaries like this are rare in KwaZulu-Natal, where the majority of organisations operate as adoption centres. Sanctuaries play a critical role in providing long-term refuge for animals who may otherwise have nowhere safe to go.
The sanctuary operates on land that is correctly zoned for agricultural and animal facility use, and functions as a managed non-profit organisation dedicated to animal welfare.
We therefore ask that the community recognise and support the important work being done by Summerveld Hound Resort and the role it plays in protecting vulnerable animals.
By signing this petition, we express our support for:
• The continued operation of Summerveld Hound Resort Dog Rescue Sanctuary
• The welfare and protection of the 98 rescued dogs in their care
• The preservation of sanctuary spaces for animals who require lifelong safety and protection should they not be adopted
We also call upon the eThekwini Municipality and relevant local authorities to recognise the sanctuary’s contribution to animal welfare in KwaZulu-Natal and to support organisations that provide responsible, compassionate care for vulnerable animals.
We believe that organisations dedicated to animal welfare should be supported by the community, and that solutions should always prioritise the wellbeing of the animals involved.
These rescued dogs deserve stability, safety, and the chance to live out their lives in a family environment.
Please note donations made on this site do not go to Summerveld Hound Resort Dog Rescue Sanctuary.
