Petition to Stop Pay & Park Outside Oliver Andrade Joggers Park in Bandra.

Petition to Stop Pay & Park Outside Oliver Andrade Joggers Park in Bandra.
The Issue
The BMC H/West ward is proposing to implement a Pay & Park policy outside Joggers Park, Hrishikesh Mukherjee Park (Carter Road South) in Bandra West. This decision has caused severe resentment among local citizens, as Joggers Park is a beloved public space visited daily by many.
In Mumbai, a city with limited open spaces, parks like Joggers Park are crucial for the well-being of its residents. The BMC has traditionally kept these spaces free of charge to encourage their use. However, introducing exorbitant parking fees contradicts this policy and imposes an unnecessary financial burden on citizens.
Here are some key reasons why this policy must be opposed:
1. **Impact on Quality of Life**: Open spaces are vital for the mental and physical health of Mumbai's residents. Charging for parking near Joggers Park will discourage people from visiting, depriving them of an essential public amenity.
2. **Senior Citizens and Children Affected**: Many senior citizens and children use Joggers Park daily. Imposing parking fees will make it harder for them and their families to access the park.
3. **Increased Traffic Congestion**: The Pay & Park policy will worsen traffic congestion on Carter Road, a critical thoroughfare connecting Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, and beyond. This congestion will be particularly problematic once the Bandra-Versova Sea Link is operational, as Carter Road will serve as an exit point.
4. **Financial Burden on Citizens**: The policy will place an undue financial burden on daily park-goers. Joggers Park should remain a place where people can improve their quality of life without worrying about additional costs.
5. **Contradictory Policy**: While the BMC promotes the use of open spaces for health and well-being, introducing parking charges contradicts this goal. The BMC should explore other revenue generation methods that do not negatively impact public access to parks.
We urge the BMC to reconsider this proposal. The primary purpose of parks is to improve the quality of life for citizens, not to generate revenue. There are surely better ways to achieve financial goals without compromising public access to essential open spaces.
We strongly Object and recommend that the Pay & Park proposal be canceled immediately before it is implemented.
Please sign this petition to stand against the Pay & Park policy outside Joggers Park and help preserve our valuable public spaces. Together, we can ensure that Joggers Park remains accessible to all, free of charge.
