We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the proposal by The Premier Inn (Parent Company: Whitbread PLC) to demolish the historic Glegg Arms, a beloved landmark and an irreplaceable heritage asset in Heswall. This demolition would have significant negative effects in terms of heritage loss and community identity.

The Glegg Arms has stood for centuries as an excellent example of a coaching inn. This iconic building, recognised for its historical and cultural significance, has been a much-loved feature of the community and a welcoming gateway to Heswall.

Premier Inn’s proposal to demolish the Glegg Arms and replace it with additional hotel rooms threatens the heritage value of this structure and undermines the character of Heswall. We, alongside The Heswall Society, local councillors, and heritage advocates, strongly oppose this proposal.

We call on Wirral Borough Council to reject this proposal and prioritise the preservation of the Glegg Arms facade for current and future generations. We urge Premier Inn to reconsider their plans and to explore alternatives that retain the external  appearance of the building

The Glegg Arms is more than just a building—it is a part of Heswall’s history and character.
