Petition to Save the “Good Education for a Bright Future” Tutoring Program in Regent Park

Petition to Save the “Good Education for a Bright Future” Tutoring Program in Regent Park
The Issue
Our Story:
The Good Education for a Bright Future program has been a pillar of the Regent Park community, serving 219 students and 97 parents, while providing 83 youth tutors with mentorship, job readiness skills, and sustainable employment opportunities. Additionally, 14 senior tutors have played a vital role in guiding students toward academic success. For years, this program has relied solely on SDP funding to continue offering these transformative services.
The recent loss of funding, decided by a panel review, now threatens the very existence of this program. Without it, students will be deprived of after-school tutoring, youth will lose meaningful employment opportunities, and the community will be left without a structured, supportive environment that nurtures growth and learning. This will increase the risk of school dropouts, poverty, and violence—issues our program directly addresses by keeping youth engaged in education and work.
Many youth in Regent Park live in circumstances where poverty and violence are real dangers. Our program provides a vital alternative by giving at-risk students the tools to succeed academically and socially. It fosters mentorship, builds confidence, and equips young people with essential life skills that promote long-term success. The correlation between education, stable employment, and community safety is undeniable, making this program critical to our neighborhood's future.
As immigrant parents and committed community members, we prioritize education as the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. This program embodies that belief, creating real change one student at a time. The shutdown of Good Education for a Bright Future will be a significant loss for Regent Park unless we act now to save it. Together, we can ensure that access to learning and growth remains a priority.
We are asking for the following actions:
Immediate reinstatement of funding for the “Good Education for a Bright Future” program.

Let’s Stand Together:
We are a community of immigrants, parents, and neighbors who chose Canada to build a better future for our children. We understand firsthand the life-changing power of education, mentorship, and opportunities for our youth. Programs like Good Education for a Bright Future are not just services; they are lifelines that provide critical pathways to success for students and sustainable employment for young people.
If the decision-makers had experienced the challenges of being newcomers or shared the perspective of parents, they would see the profound impact this program has on our children’s safety and potential. Without it, many students will lose access to essential academic support, and many youth will be denied meaningful work experiences that build confidence, skills, and brighter futures.
Now is the time to unite and raise our voices to protect this program. Together, we can show that education, mentorship, and empowering youth with employment are the foundations of safer, more prosperous neighborhoods. Let’s stand strong and demonstrate the collective power of community action.
