PETITION TO SAVE THE CHRIST THE KING FIELDS
The Issue
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has officially listed 4.25 acres of the Christ the King Parish complex (3201 Chesterfield Road) for sale on the open market for $3,000,000. This parcel includes the closed convent and the expansive green space currently housing a neighborhood baseball field. The property is being explicitly marketed to private real estate developers for residential subdivision.
The Risk: If a private developer purchases this land, Morrell Park will permanently lose one of its last remaining green spaces, destroying local youth sports infrastructure and increasing neighborhood density.
Our Demand: We, the undersigned residents, parents, and neighbors of Morrell Park in the Far Northeast, urgently request that OUR REPRESENTATIVES use their public service prerogative to:
Oppose High-Density Rezoning: Deny any zoning variances or changes that would allow developers to over-build on this recreational land.
Explore Public Acquisition: Partner with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the Fairmount Park Conservancy, or state grant programs to acquire this 4.25-acre parcel and preserve it for permanent community youth sports fields (T-ball, soccer, and baseball).
