The Issue

Taliptip River is a stream in Bulacan, Philippines, Asia. also known as Taliptip. It is situated close to the villages Mambog and Matimbo. It serves as highly diverse and productive ecosystem that contributes to economic growth, food security and human well-being.

A franchise granted to San Miguel Aerocity Inc., a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation (SMC), to contruct, develop, establish, operate and maintain an airport and an adjacent airport city in Bulacan, on the northwest shore of Manila. The New Manila International Airport, set to be the largest airport in the Philippines.

Taliptip river provides livelihood to fishermen and displacement for the aerotropolis include food insecurity, livelihood and economic losses, loss of housing and privatization of communal areas. Infrastructure on rivers adversely affects aquatic life; and will destroy fishing ground.

The Taliptip River and fishermen will experience loss on their land, economy and livelihood. Many fishermen will lose their job. Major geohahazards were identifies that includes earthquakes, tidal and fluvial flooding, storm surge and subsidence. Operation in Bulacan Airport will worsen the flooding and increase the area’s vulnerability to other geohazards, endangering the sustainability of the fisheries.
