From: Concerned Residents of Brooklyn Park

We, the undersigned residents and constituents of Brooklyn Park, respectfully demand that the City Council immediately revoke the sanctions
issued against Council Member Maria Tran, applying to the censure on June 3rd 2024
WHY THIS MATTERS:
Council Member Tran was elected by the people to serve with integrity, courage, and independence. She has faithfully fulfilled that role-asking tough questions, seeking accountability, and speaking up on behalf of those who are too often unheard. That is not misconduct. That is the essence of public service.
The sanctions are a politically motivated effort to silence dissent and punish a council member who
challenges the status quo. This not only violates the spirit of democracy-it undermines public trust
and discourages civic engagement.
We remind the Council that:
•  Imposing sanctions on a Council Member which limits her access to City staff and resources
and prohibits her public activities violates not only the Council Member’s rights but the rights
of everyone she serves and represents. .
Council Member Tran has not been found guilty of any ethical or legal violations.

The sanctions set a dangerous precedent of retaliation and repression of diverse voices
in government. Voters, not politicians, have the right to decide who represents them.
Our Message Is Clear:
We do not accept the use of public authority to silence or shame elected officials for doing their job. This action is a misuse of power, and it must be corrected.
We Call On the Council To:
·
1. Rescind the sanctions immediately.
 2.  Publicly affirm Council Member Tran's right to represent her constituents without retaliation.
3.  Commit to fair, transparent, and respectful governance moving forward.
4. In the interests of transparency stop blocking public access to the investigation, closed meeting proceedings and transcripts of depositions in Tran v. City of Brooklyn Park ,et.al.
