Petition to Reverse the Decision to Break Up the Former 8U Monarch Baseball Team
Petition to Reverse the Decision to Break Up the Former 8U Monarch Baseball Team
The Issue
To: Algenon Wilson and Douglas County Parks & Recreation Leadership
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the decision to break up the former 8U Monarch baseball team be reversed.
The Monarchs are more than just a baseball team—they are a group of boys who have built deep friendships, developed teamwork skills, and shown a passion for the game. This past season, they worked hard, played with heart, and earned their way to the championship. They did so with sportsmanship, dedication, and the support of their committed coaches and families.
Despite their success, the team has now been disbanded—a move that feels not only deeply unfair but also inconsistent with how other teams are treated. Other teams at Hunter Park, as well as teams at other parks governed by Douglas County Parks & Recreation, are allowed to remain together year after year. Singling out the Monarchs sends a harmful message that winning “too much” can lead to punishment rather than celebration.
This decision undermines the spirit of youth sports, where the focus should be on building character, teamwork, and love for the game—not penalizing achievement. It also disregards the bonds these boys have formed. For many of them, playing together has been the highlight of their year and a source of confidence and joy.
We believe this action feels like a personal attack on the players and coaches who have done nothing but represent our park with pride. We urge Douglas County Parks & Recreation to reconsider and allow the Monarchs to remain together, just as other teams in the county have been permitted to do.
Let’s stand for fairness, consistency, and the right for our children to enjoy the game they love with the teammates they’ve grown with.
Please sign this petition to support reversing the decision and keeping the 8U Monarchs together as they transition to 10U.
Sincerely,
Theresa Bew
