The Issue

To: Broomfield City Council

We, the residents of Broomfield, ask that City Council reverse the Residential Waste Services program, a policy passed without citizen vote. Although promoted as beneficial, this program places a financial burden on single-family residents, excluding HOAs and apartment complexes, and increases trash costs without a price guarantee, risking yearly fee hikes. Key concerns include:

 • Lack of Adequate Public Input: Out of Broomfield’s 76,860 residents, only 900 were surveyed—a fraction of our community. This does not represent a democratic consensus.

 • Financial Hardship on Single-Family Residents: The added costs disproportionately impact single-family households. Residents should not bear the brunt of a program that excludes major housing sectors.

 • Opt-Out Fine Undermines the Purpose: If residents opt out, paying fines monthly, it negates the program’s promise to reduce trash trucks on the road.

 • Redundant Service: Broomfield already offers free, unlimited drop-off recycling. For many, this additional service is unnecessary.

This program will cost the city $200,000 annually, money that could be directed toward initiatives truly beneficial to all residents. We urge Broomfield City Council to halt this program, prioritize transparent and inclusive public engagement, and work with residents to find a balanced solution that serves our entire community fairly.

Sign this petition if you believe Broomfield deserves a waste management solution built on fairness, transparency, and genuine public input.
