We, the undersigned residents of DeKalb County, Georgia, write to express our strong support for Police Chief Mirtha Ramos and to urge you to allow her to continue serving as our Police Chief. Chief Ramos has led our police department with outstanding dedication, integrity, and effectiveness—a fact clearly reflected in the dramatic improvements in community safety during her tenure.

Under her leadership, DeKalb County has seen a 13% reduction in overall property and violent crimes, with homicide rates dropping by 85% in January 2023 and maintaining a 77.3% reduction year-to-date. These remarkable statistics demonstrate that her strategic vision and commitment to public safety have made a significant positive impact on our community.

Moreover, as the first female and longest-serving police chief in over 20 years, Chief Ramos has not only broken barriers but has also earned the trust and respect of the community through her tireless work and proven performance. It is deeply concerning that she was unexpectedly given a 21-day ultimatum to resign—a decision that appears disconnected from the substantial progress and safety improvements witnessed under her command.

For reasons not transparently shared with the public, our county’s leadership has opted for a change in direction that disregards the clear benefits of Chief Ramos’s approach. Removing a leader who has demonstrably made our streets safer is not in the best interest of our community.

We respectfully call upon the DeKalb County leadership to:

• Reconsider the decision to force Chief Ramos out of her role.
• Acknowledge the successful results achieved under her leadership, including significant crime reduction and improved community trust.
• Prioritize the continued safety and well-being of our residents by retaining a proven and committed police chief.

For the safety and progress of DeKalb County, we very respectfully request that you reverse this decision and allow Chief Mirtha Ramos to continue her exemplary service as our Police Chief.
