It doesn't matter which neighborhood you live in here in Bakersfield, our community mailboxes have become a magnet for crime. 

The picture above was yesterday morning,  the third time in one week. In the last several weeks the number of break-ins has escalated to approximately six or seven times. This is not just a minor inconvenience; it's a serious issue affecting our peace of mind. Alarmingly, at least one neighbor I know of has faced financial repercussions in the thousands due to a credit card stolen from their mailbox. These events have impacted almost every neighborhood in the city of Bakersfield.

Our neighborhoods and Post Offices have been unable to protect community mailboxes from theft and vandalism no matter how diligent we all are.    This has cost the city and community members thousands of dollars and countless hours of time for the USPS to go repair, replace or having to receive complaints regarding mail theft and break-ins.

The solution is clear: restore direct mail delivery to individual homes like many of our other neighborhood streets do.  Our mail delivery person as well as our local Post Office has stated that they are in support of this but to do so we need signatures to make this happen. 

It's time!  Let's stand together and sign this petition  for the government and local postal authorities to be able to work on re-implementing mail home delivery and work with us to cut down on mail theft .
