Petition to Restore Historic Dagri Bangla — A Treasure in Galiyat

Petition to Restore Historic Dagri Bangla — A Treasure in Galiyat
The Issue
To: Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat Development Authority, KP Tourism Department, Wildlife Department, and Forest Department
We, the members of Adventure Club, COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, urge the concerned authorities to take immediate steps for the restoration of Dagri Bangla, a historic rest house located deep within the scenic trails of Galiyat near Thandiani.
Dagri Bangla, a colonial-era structure, suffered extensive damage during the 2005 earthquake and remains unrestored to this day. On our recent university trek, we were struck by the beauty of the location and saddened by the deteriorated state of what could be a jewel of eco-tourism and historical preservation.
Why Dagri Bangla Must Be Restored:
🏡 Cultural Heritage: Built during the British era, Dagri Bangla is part of our shared colonial and natural history.
🌲 Eco-tourism Hub: Its location on popular trekking routes makes it a valuable spot for nature tourism, adventure seekers, and environmental education.
🧭 Safe Haven for Trekkers: It has long served as a rest point for hikers — restoration would ensure safety and shelter for travelers.
🧑🎓 Experiential Learning: Adventure and trekking clubs regularly organize expeditions here, making it a vital part of outdoor leadership and environmental awareness.
💔 Neglected for Too Long: Despite its potential, Dagri Bangla has seen no meaningful restoration or preservation efforts in the 19 years since the earthquake.
We Request:
A detailed assessment and restoration plan for Dagri Bangla.
Budget allocation for eco-friendly and sustainable reconstruction.
Recognition of Dagri Bangla as a protected heritage and tourism site.
Involvement of student and adventure clubs in awareness and volunteer-based preservation programs.
Dagri Bangla stands not just as a building, but as a symbol of Pakistan’s natural beauty, history, and untapped tourism potential. With the right attention and care, it can once again serve as a beacon for adventurers, historians, and nature lovers alike.
We, at Adventure Club COMSATS Abbottabad, call upon you to join us in this mission. Let’s bring back Dagri Bangla — better, stronger, and greener.
