We, the undersigned members of the Indian diaspora in Sweden, along with concerned travelers, respectfully submit this petition to urge the Government of India and Air India to reinstate the direct flight service between Stockholm (ARN) and New Delhi (DEL). This crucial air route was operational before the COVID-19 pandemic but was unfortunately discontinued post-pandemic and after Air India's acquisition by the Tata Group.

Over the past five years, Indians residing in Sweden have faced immense difficulties due to the exorbitant airfares and lack of competition in this sector. The discontinuation of Air India's direct flight has led to the following challenges:

Unreasonably High Airfares: Due to limited flight options, ticket prices for travel between Sweden and India have skyrocketed, making travel unaffordable for many individuals and families. This flight will not only benefit Indians in Sweden but also travelers from Norway.

Lack of Direct Connectivity: Passengers, including elderly citizens and families with young children, are forced to endure long layovers and multiple stopovers, leading to increased travel time and inconvenience.
Challenges for Business Travelers and Students: The absence of a direct flight negatively impacts business travelers, professionals, and students who require seamless connectivity between the two nations.

Family Emergencies and Urgent Travel Needs: Many travelers struggle to secure reasonably priced last-minute flights in cases of family emergencies.

Impact on Tourism and Bilateral Relations: Sweden is home to a thriving Indian community, and the lack of direct connectivity hampers tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between India and Sweden.

Inability to Visit Home Country: Many Indians residing in Sweden are unable to visit their families and homeland due to unaffordable airfares. A direct and cost-effective flight would enable the Indian diaspora to reconnect with their roots and loved ones more frequently.

Before the pandemic, Air India’s Stockholm–Delhi flight provided a vital link for thousands of passengers traveling between the two countries. The resumption of this route would not only benefit the Indian diaspora but also enhance bilateral relations and economic ties between India and Sweden.

We sincerely request the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Air India to consider our appeal and take necessary action to reinstate the Stockholm–Delhi flight at the earliest.
