Petition to resolve ongoing physical and emotional abuse at senior apartment
Petition to resolve ongoing physical and emotional abuse at senior apartment
The Issue
We, the undersigned are writing to express our deep concern for the well-being and safety of the residents at a senior apartment complex in Berkeley, CA. One of the residents of our community has been causing severe distress and harm through emotional abuse and physical attacks against senior residents. Despite numerous reports to the police and incidents reports to the Helios Management, the situation has not improved, and the safety of our community remains compromised.
Imagine the fear and anxiety the senior residents experience daily, not knowing when the next attack will occur. Some are afraid to get to their mailbox, walk in the courtyard, and are so stressed, that don’t want to think and talk about their experiences. We have the right to live in peace, without fear of abuse of ourselves and our dog pets. It is both heartbreaking and unacceptable that these reports have been overlooked and that action has not yet been taken.
The impact of such abuse on elderly individuals cannot be overstated. Emotional abuse can lead to severe mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Physical assaults can obviously lead to injuries, but for seniors, they may also result in longer recovery times, loss of independence, and even life-threatening conditions.
We are not calling for extreme measures, but rather concrete actions to ensure the safety of all residents. This action will provide the much-needed relief and assurance to the long-suffering members of our community.
According to the CDC, elder abuse is a significant concern, with around 1 in 10 seniors experiencing some form of abuse each year. This statistic highlights the urgent need for action in our particular case. We believe that Helios Management has the responsibility and authority to act decisively in relocating Ms. Melnick or finding her alternative housing arrangements to protect our senior residents
Please join us in calling for action to protect our seniors from further harm. Sign this petition to make a difference and help create a safer, more harmonious living environment for these seniors.
