Given that The Comstock Act of 1873, a relic of the Victorian Era, is currently being invoked to impose certain social mores on the citizenry, we the people hereby demand its immediate repeal.

The Comstock Act was designed to police the distribution of material which was in the 19th century considered to be prurient, meaning that which provokes sexual interest deemed by some to be “unwholesome.” 

This is relevant in the 21st century as the Comstock Act is being weaponized by activists within state legislatures and federal judgeships to enact laws designed to deny individuals with the capacity to become pregnant the ability to adequately and safely access health care affecting people as young as five years old to as old as 50. 

The ambiguities of a term such as prurient allows the Act be applied in such a manner which enables activists to stymie the economic and social progress of minority communities deemed to be deviant by passing laws aimed at individuals who do not conform to their notions of gender and sexuality. 

The weaponization of the Comstock Act at the local level through the legislatures and at the national level by federal judges, is quantifiably harmful and must be immediately stopped.
