Petition to Repair Parking Meters to Accept Change

Petition to Repair Parking Meters to Accept Change

The Issue

To: The Village Board of New Paltz

Location: New Paltz, New York

Subject: Request for the Restoration of Coin-Operated Parking Meters

We, the undersigned residents and visitors of New Paltz, respectfully request that the Village Board take immediate action to repair the parking meters in our community so that they can once again accept change. Currently, some coin slots are covered with stickers indicating that payment must be made via a mobile app. While we understand the convenience and modernity of mobile payment methods, we believe it is essential to maintain the option of coin-operated meters for several reasons:

1. Accessibility: Not all residents and visitors have smartphones or are comfortable using mobile apps. Coin-operated meters ensure everyone has equal access to parking facilities.

2. Convenience: Coins are a simple and quick way to pay for parking without the need for technology or additional steps.

3. Inclusivity: Providing multiple payment options makes parking accessible to a broader demographic, including older adults and those who prefer traditional payment methods.

We urge the Village Board to consider the diverse needs of our community and to restore the functionality of coin-operated parking meters. By doing so, New Paltz can continue to be an inclusive and accommodating village for all its residents and visitors.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

New Paltz Citizens for Parking Reform
