Anti-Semitism is a hateful and racist ideology that has been around for thousands of years. While it was on the decline for much of the second half of the 20th and into the 21st century, it has seen a shocking resurgence in recent years. 

In the face of escalating assaults globally, Jews are looking to men and women in positions of power to make a strong stand and fight back against the rising tide of hatred against Jews.

As Democrats, we expect our leaders to be held to the highest of standards in protecting the civil rights of all citizens. We are shocked and disappointed by some of the decisions made by Democratic Party leadership in recent months, most notably the decision to place Representative Ilhan Omar on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. 

Representative Omar has repeatedly used anti-Semitic tropes and language, and has displayed a clear bias against the Jewish State of Israel. Allowing an anti-Semite to sit on one of the most powerful House committees sends a clear message: party leadership will stay silent as anti-Semitic ideas take root within our caucus.

It is time we say enough is enough.  We are calling on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to remove Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. This first step is crucial in ensuring that our party does not end up becoming a safe haven for Jewish hatred like the current state of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom.
