Petition to Reinstate Year 12 Muck-Up Day

To the Principal and School Leadership,

We, the Year 12 students of Aquinas college Ringwood, respectfully but resolutely call for the reinstatement of our traditional Muck-Up Day—a milestone that has long symbolised the completion of school life and the beginning of a new chapter.

For thirteen years, we have committed ourselves to study, growth, and perseverance. We have faced the same challenges, pressures, and expectations as every graduating class before us. To deny us the same rite of passage that previous cohorts enjoyed is unjust, unfair, and a decision that diminishes the recognition we deserve after years of dedication.

We acknowledge that in the past, some students may have taken this celebration too far. However, it is neither reasonable nor respectful to punish our cohort for the mistakes of others. We have consistently demonstrated responsibility and respect, and we are prepared to do the same during Muck-Up Day. Past behaviour does not define us, and it should not be used to erase our opportunity for celebration.

Muck-Up Day is not simply about fun. It is a rite of passage—a symbolic moment of closure, a chance to come together as a community, and a tradition that acknowledges the effort we have given to this school. To cancel it outright is not an act of caution, but of denial: denial of our dignity, our efforts, and our fair treatment as graduating students.

We are not asking for chaos; we are demanding a fair and responsible opportunity to celebrate. Many schools have successfully kept this tradition alive by putting in place clear guidelines, supervision, and themed activities that ensure both safety and enjoyment. We are more than willing to work within such boundaries. What we cannot accept is being excluded from a tradition that every other cohort before us has been allowed to enjoy.

Therefore, we call upon the school administration to:

  • Reinstate Muck-Up Day for the Class of 2025.
  • Collaborate with student leaders to ensure celebrations are safe, structured, and respectful.
  • Uphold fairness by recognising our right to celebrate, independent of past mistakes.

We deserve this day. We have earned this day. And we will continue to speak up until our voices are heard.

With respect,

The Year 12 Students of Aquinas
