Petition to Reinstate Our Beloved Imam

Our Imam has been more than a leader—he has been a source of guidance, compassion, wisdom, and unity for our community. Through his sermons, counseling, dedication to our youth, and unwavering service, he has helped strengthen our faith and bring people together during both joyful and difficult times.

Many members of our congregation were deeply saddened to learn of the decision to remove him from his position. We believe that a decision of this importance should reflect the voices of the community he has faithfully served.

By signing this petition, we respectfully ask the mosque’s leadership to reconsider its decision, reinstate our Imam, and engage in an open and transparent dialogue with the congregation. Our request is rooted in respect, unity, and a sincere desire to preserve the trust and harmony of our community.

RE: Formal Request to Retain Imam Wali Ahad and Request for Financial Transparency

Assalamu Alaikum,

 

We write on behalf of this community regarding the recent decision concerning Imam Wali Ahad’s employment status. We ask that the Board reconsider this matter with the seriousness it deserves.

Imam Wali Ahad has served this masjid with distinction since he’s joined our community, and his contributions extend well beyond his formal duties. He has been a consistent, accessible, and compassionate presence for women and families in this community, particularly in matters where representation and sensitivity are essential. His counsel, his khutbahs, and his willingness to engage respectfully with all members have earned him widespread trust and respect. Most importantly, the youth in our masjid have very positively engaged with Imam Wali Ahad and have connected with him unlike other Imams in the past. This is not a minor sentiment; it reflects the experience of a substantial portion of the congregation.

We are requesting the following:

• That the Board formally reconsider and reverse any decision to terminate or remove Imam Wali Ahad from his position

• Full and itemized transparency regarding the masjid’s finances as they relate to this decision, including any budgetary, personnel, or governance rationale cited for his removal

• A written response outlining the Board’s reasoning and next steps within a reasonable timeframe

 

We want to be clear and direct: should this decision not be reversed, and should financial transparency not be provided, a substantial number of community members are prepared to discontinue their monthly membership contributions to the masjid. This is not a threat made lightly, but a reflection of how strongly this community feels about accountability and fair treatment of those who serve it faithfully.

We hope this matter can be resolved through open dialogue and mutual respect, consistent with the values this masjid represents. We look forward to your prompt response.
