Petition to Reinstate Coach Charles

Petition to Reinstate Coach Charles
The Issue
Introduction
We, the undersigned parents, guardians, alumni, and supporters of the Deltona High School cheerleading program, respectfully submit this petition to express our collective concern regarding the recent resignation of Coach Charles and to strongly urge his reinstatement as Head Coach.
Our Concerns
Coach Charles has served as a pillar of the Deltona High cheerleading community for the past three years, transforming the program into one of excellence, discipline, and pride. Under his leadership, our student-athletes have grown not only in skill, but in character — becoming national champions, dedicated teammates, and confident leaders on and off the mat.
The news of Coach Charles’ resignation came as a shock to many of us. While his letter spoke of personal reflection and healing, those who know him well find it difficult to believe this decision was entirely his own. His steadfast commitment to this program, his athletes, and the school has been nothing short of extraordinary. If there were factors that influenced his departure beyond his own volition, we as a community believe we deserve transparency.
High school athletics is about more than competition — it is about mentorship, growth, and resilience. Coach Charles has embodied these values. His sudden absence has created a void not just in the cheer program, but in the lives of the young people he has guided and uplifted.
What We Are Requesting
We respectfully urge the Deltona High School administration to take immediate action to reinstate Coach Charles as Head Coach of the DHS cheer program. His absence has left a significant void, and we believe his return is essential to the continued growth, success, and well-being of our student-athletes.
Testimonials from Parents and Supporters
Please see below for testimonials from parents and community members who have witnessed firsthand the immeasurable impact Coach Charles has had on their children. These voices are a reflection of the overwhelming support for his return and the belief that the cheerleading program cannot move forward without him.
“I wholeheartedly support Coach Charles and the incredible impact he has on our cheerleaders. He teaches so much more than stunts and tumbling—he instills confidence, discipline, teamwork, and resilience in every athlete he works with. His passion, patience, and dedication go far beyond the mat, shaping not just skilled cheerleaders, but strong, respectful, and driven young individuals. The cheerleaders deserve to have a coach like Charles—someone who believes in them, pushes them to grow, and advocates for their success both on and off the mat. I strongly advocate for his reinstatement; this team, and this community, are better with him leading it.”
— Jessica, DHS Cheer Parent
“It is so hard to put into words what I am feeling right now. These cheerleaders and parents are absolutely heartbroken. Coach Charles is what most parents and kids dream of from a coach. He pours his heart and soul into this program. Though I do not know the details of what happened, I am certain that there was a better way to handle this. He has taken this program from nothing and turned it into an amazing program! He pours his heart and soul into this program. He has brought comradery to this team. He has proven time and time again that he doesn’t care what school or program you are in, he wants you to succeed. He has formed amazing relationships with these cheerleaders and their families. We are like a family now. My daughter is seriously considering not cheering next year if he is not coaching. This absolutely breaks my heart as this is her senior year. While I understand things happen, I am a firm believer that everyone deserves a second chance. Charles is the heart of this program and a staple in the community. Charles genuinely cares about these kids! He has fought for them time and time again and we will fight for him!”

“I am a former Deltona High School cheerleader. I was saddened to hear from a current cheerleader, that Charles, my cheer coach in high school, was not going to be coaching the team anymore. I am not entirely sure of what happened, but I did want to show my love and support for him and this team in hopes that maybe he will coach again this season. He was one of those rare people who truly left a last mark on my life. He wasn’t just a coach—he was a mentor, motivator, and someone who genuinely believed in every one of us, even when we didn’t believe in ourselves. I still remember how he has this incredible ability to see potential where other might not. He always knew how to bring the best in people. Whether it was pushing us to nail a tough routine or encouraging us through personal struggles, Charles always showed up with patience, strength, and heart. What set Charles apart was the way he led with both discipline and compassion. He expected nothing less than our best but never demanded it without giving us his all first. He taught us what it meant to work hard, to show up consistently, and to care about the people we stood beside. I didn’t just grow as a cheerleader under his guidance—I grew as a person. His words still echo in my head when I face challenges: “You’re stronger than you think, and you’ve got more in you than you know.” He made me believe that. Looking back, I realize how much Charles influenced the way I carry myself today. The confidence I have, the way I face setbacks, the standard I hold myself to—it all traces back to those years in the gym, learning from someone who truly cared. He didn’t just teach us cheers and stunts; he taught us resilience, leadership, and pride in who we are. And for that, I’ll always be grateful.”
— Alexis, Former DHS Cheerleader
“When I think of an awesome coach, I would think of Coach Charles. He is not only a great athlete himself and a huge competitor, but he’s also a great role model for these kids. He has cheered his whole life and then comes to this high school to help make DHS a better cheer team and he did just that! His team grew stronger and better! Because of him as coach. These kids love and look up to him. All he is doing is something he loves with all his heart. Cheer is his heart… teaching these kids the fundamentals and helping them grow makes him happy. He’s a coach because it makes him happy. He brings such joy to this team. He has built this team, and we have become a family. He has such bonds with each and every child on the squad. There are special relationships to where these won’t want to cheer anymore if they can’t have Charles. That says a lot in itself! I know Charles has guided my daughter into the cheerleader she is today. And he’s not only just a coach to her, but he’s also a mentor. He gets these kids; he makes sure they stay in line! He cares deeply. Charles is a huge part of my daughter’s life. He has coached her since she started cheer in high school. She looks up to him in every way. She actually helps coach Pop Warner because he inspired her so much. Please don’t take him away from us. This is my daughter’s senior year. Last year with Coach Charles. This was her year to be Captain. Taking Charles away is like ripping the heart out of DHS Cheer. We love him.”

“Nothing but the best. It is what any parent wants for their child and will work hard to give or get their child. My daughter Leah cheered for the West Volusia Wolves during her elementary and middle school years. She had great coaches who provided her with an amazing start in the sport of cheer. She made great friends, some of whom she still cheers with today at Deltona High School. Nothing but the best. When her 8th grade year was coming to end, we applied for a variance to attend Deltona High School, home of the Deltona Wolves and her father’s alma mater, because, well; Nothing but the best. Not knowing if the variance would be approved or not, Leah still attended the cheer open mats at Deltona High School before tryouts. She knew that hard work and dedication, giving it all that she had was what it was going to take to make the squad. She met Coach Charles Floro who saw immense potential in her. He told me “Nothing but the best.” Leah made the varsity cheer squad as a freshman. Her variance was approved. My girl was a Wolf! Some fear, some excitement! New school, new friends, new teachers, and more. Nothing but the best. A new coach with a vision and commitment to a program that needed improvement. A coach who sacrificed, pouring everything he had into transforming the program into something Deltona had never had or seen before. Nothing but the best. Long practice’s, new motions, and hard stunts; sweat and tears. Getting to know each other, becoming one as a team; a cheer family. Nothing but the best. Leah had a coach who instilled the values of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork in each of his cheerleaders. A coach who became a mentor, role model, and friend. A coach who inspired the squad to achieve greatness and surpass expectations. A coach that other coaches strive to be. Who cheers on every squad at every competition with enthusiasm like no other. Nothing but the best. A coach who was Leah’s cheerleader every step of the way; helping her get back on the mat when she was hurt or afraid; on those days where she felt she had no more to give. A coach who knew she could do better, so he pushed her to be better. Nothing but the best. A coach who has listened, who has learned, who has conquered, who’s love and support for his cheerleaders and their families is unwavering. A coach whose hard work tireless efforts in just 2.5 years, made something out of nothing- flyers, tumblers, amazing stunts, all of which brought us to the top-National Champions! Nothing but the best. Nothing but the best. It is what Leah and her teammates want. It is what they deserve.”
— Amanda, DHS Cheer Parent
“My daughter has gone a long way in just her freshman year of high school. She started tumbling at a young age. She really didn’t know much about cheer. She went from a WIT (Wolfe In Training) to JV to Varsity in less than a year. Coach Charles’ hard work, determination, and dedication with his athletes has turned our lives around. We are heartbroken. We want our coach back. We are lost without him. We don’t know what our athletes will do without him and the cheer program.”
— Leah, DHS Cheer Parent
“I want everyone to understand how important Coach Charles is to these girls. My daughter has truly come out of her shell. She is no longer shy, and she loves DHS and going to school. She has told me Charles sees the good in her and inspires her to always be the best she can be at everything she does. Her grades are great, and she has become an awesome cheerleader. We have cried together because this man truly loves these kids and his job. This program will not be the same without him. He has a love for this sport like no other and we are at a great loss without him!”
— Christina, DHS Cheer Parent
“My granddaughter has really benefited from cheerleading this year. She is very shy and being a cheerleader brings her out of her shyness. She was typically not a dan of school and often did not want to go. But you can’t miss class and cheer, so she didn’t complain. Her have been amazing because knows she has to keep her grades up. Her coach inspired her to be the best she be not only in cheer but in school.”
— Lisa, DHS Cheer Grandparent
“I am writing to express my sincere thoughts regarding the recent resignation of Coach Charles. While I do not have the opportunity to get to know him well, as my daughter just joined the team from middle school, I had the pleasure of meeting on Friday, April 4. In that short time, his dedication and passion for both the team and the sport were clearly evident. My daughter, who tends to be shy, immediately felt welcomed and comfortable with him—something that is not always easy for her. We were genuinely excited for the upcoming season under his guidance, and we are deeply saddened and shocked by the news of his departure. DHS is losing a remarkable asset, both to cheer and to the staff. His presence, even in our brief experience, made a positive impact on my daughter and our family.”
